Another reason for helping tenants in the start of their tenancy is that one of the most crucial parts of Danish rental law happens in the first 14 days of the tenancy. In this period, it is essential that the tenant documents the condition of the rental thoroughly.
It is normal that the landlord will have a walkthrough of the apartment with you, and they make a report. However, you as a tenant don’t have any say what’s written in this report. Is it in Danish, then you will be in an even worse position legally. It is not uncommon that the landlord states that it is newly renovated, even though you can document that it clearly isn’t.
Therefore, it is important that you make a list of all the potential problems you see in the apartment and have a picture of every problem. It is also important that you can show that it is sent to the landlord within the 14 days of moving in.
I still have questions?
Our FAQs can’t possibly cover every specific situation. No matter if you have problems with your landlord; not paying your deposit, the landlord not helping you fix something that’s broken, rent increases or utility bills we would be happy to answer whatever question you might have.
We offer the first advice for free, as we believe it is best for the tenants to have an estimation if there is a case or not, in their current situation. In this way people will have a better understanding of their situation and what they could do next to better their position, alternatively they will know if it is something that we maybe are able to help with.
